When viewing the works of Bernhard Buhmann it is like reading Paul Auster's novels. No sooner has one settled into a world of longing for self-assuring shelter and safety, then a new narrative perspective slips into place and throws the reader off course (Peter Niedermair). Potential reality designs collide abruptly with surrealistic structures and reflect the coming together of opposites in a crazy and almost fragile world. The pathetic-looking sky is the setting for all sorts of flying objects, from paper planes to tank-like constructions with smoking chimneys and flying metal cans. The idyllic grove is backdrop to a lighthouse, a last attempt to call everyone to order.

Regardless of what happens in the story, there are no foregone conclusions, above all because the alleged protagonists sitting in their flying machines have long since let go of the reins. After the hustle and bustle of a hectic and confusing world and subsequent lawlessness follows carefree frivolity. Such constructions are good at keeping pleasantries untarnished and these should be maintained at all costs. Any possible consequences are not part of the scenario, which is a game show set right in the narrow context of a live broadcast of "reality". Appearances become deadly serious, an entertaining survival strategy, which the "soldiers of fortune" embrace and prepare for the next round footloose and fancy-free.
